In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths… Hebrews 5.12
Americans who own and especially those who carry handguns have been forced to fight a tooth and nail, never ending fight against those who want to disarm America and hand it over to the enemies of Constitutional Government. It isn’t helpful when one of them shoots his wife in the butt.

Man accidentally shoots wife in buttocks
By Breaking News Staff
SPRINGFIELD — The husband of a 46-year-old woman shot in the buttocks at their home this afternoon was charged with negligent assault.
Kent Scott told Springfield police he picked up a backpack from the floor when a handgun fell out. As he reached to pick it up, it discharged, Springfield police Sgt. Doug Pergram said.
Kimberly Scott was hit in the left buttock, and the bullet was lodged in her right buttock near her hip, he said. “It was an accidental gunshot wound,” Pergram said.
Police and medics were called at 3:23 p.m. to the home in the 600 block of Damascus Avenue. The couple was not arguing, and drugs or alcohol was not involved, he said.
Ok, let’s break this down.
First of all, handguns don’t discharge. They are fired. I have a stack of newspaper reports of guns “going off”. They don’t “go off”. They are fired.
Secondly, there are three main rules to gun safety and all three were broken here.
2. Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
3. Never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot. (This means that you’ve identified your target, and your sights are on the target.)
Clearly, all three rules were violated. There was a loaded handgun in a backpack. This handgun should have been in a holster, in the back pack. A modern holster covers the trigger, which would have prevented rule number 3 from being broken. When it was picked up, presumably from the floor, it was either picked up by the trigger guard, or with a finger on the trigger.
If you own and especially if you carry a handgun, do so responsibly. We already have our hands full keeping the anti-gun folks from disarming us with their scary stories of 4-way stops becoming the “wild, wild west”, or that our handguns will “go off” in public. We don’t need to give them more ammo. Let’s at least keep from shooting ourselves in the foot, or our wives in the butt.
