Tighten Your Grip, Clingers, It May Be A Rough Ride

clingingIn April, 2008, candidate Barak Obama said that in “small towns in Pennsylvania” and “small towns in the Midwest”, people “cling to guns or religion”.

Yes we do.

And after reading the Democratic Party Platform for 2016, I’d suggest that we tighten our a grip.

If you try not to let your eyes glaze over as you look at their plank on “gun violence”, I’ll try to make some sense of it for  you.  Their threats are in italics.

With 33,000 Americans dying every year, Democrats believe that we must finally take sensible action to address gun violence. While responsible gun ownership is part of the fabric of many communities, too many families in America have suffered from gun violence.  We can respect the rights of responsible gun owners while keeping our communities safe.

First of all, about 65% of those deaths are suicides.  “Sensible action to address gun violence” probably won’t reduce that tragic number by much.  And notice the label Gun-BuyBack-704x246“responsible” gun ownership or “responsible” gun owners.  Those would be people who submit to the government disarmament program they have in mind.

And while it’s true that “responsible gun ownership” may be a part of the fabric of many communities (read small towns in Pennsylvania and the Midwest), it is also A CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT which they are offering to “respect”.  At least so far…

…we will expand and strengthen background checks and close dangerous loopholes in our current laws; repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to revoke the dangerous legal immunity protections gun makers and sellers now enjoy; and keep weapons of war—such as assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines (LCAM’s)—off our streets.

Expanded background checks will be similar to those in Britain and Australia, requiring money_wheelbarrow2proof of “good character”, and a “good reason” to own a firearm.  And self-defense is NOT a good reason.  By revoking the PLCAA, they would create an opportunity for anti-gun nuts to litigate gun manufacturers right out of business, or at least increase the cost of gun ownership through frivolous lawsuits beyond what most of us can afford.

There is insufficient research on effective gun prevention policies, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must have the resources it needs to study gun violence as a public health issue.

Finally, some truth emerges at the end of their diatribe, although it includes a threat to spend more of your money.  There is NO research which links the causality of either gun ownership with higher crime, or stricter gun laws with reducing crime.  But if given enough money, probably from taxes on guns and ammunition, the CDC could “produce” just such a result.  Like it is said, torture the data long enough and it will confess to anything.

They will only succeed in removing the one tool that we have to protect ourselves fromgun15 those stronger and more violent than we are.  On page 38 they offer a promise to “bring an end to sexual assault—wherever it occurs, including on campuses— because everyone deserves a safe environment where they can learn and thrive, not live in fear.”  But by disarming women, especially women on college campuses, they increase the likelihood of sexual assault; increasing the fear they must live in.  Such blindness is amazing.

And forget about defending your religious freedom.  They will destroy that as well.  The threat on page 19 says it all:

“We support a progressive vision of religious freedom that respects pluralism and rejects the misuse of religion to discriminate.”

They want to shape the religion of America, so that it fits their Godless philosophy.  If your understanding of the Bible teaches you that homosexuality is wrong, then your understanding is a “misuse of religion to discriminate”.  And once they succeed in disarming those who believe the Bible, and revere the Constitution, they can create any world they want, and you won’t be able to stop them.  It’s been done before…
