Jesus said that your heart is co-located with your money. Let me look at your financial statements, and I can find your heart.
The Bible also says that what you think is who you are. Let me look at your media and I can locate you.
You are what you watch, what you listen to, and what you read. Is your Bible dusty? That may tell me something. Is your TV Guide well-worn? That may reveal another thing. Is your library card nearly unreadable from handling it? That fact may be important.
Your choice of friends will direct your destiny. Ditto your choice of media.
In the chorus of his song, “Are the good times really over for good?”, Merle Haggard writes, “are we rolling downhill like a snowball headed for hell, with no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell?”.
Are we? What do we watch, listen to, or read?
When the song ends, after a pause, he presents a challenge. He sings, “stop rolling downhill like a snowball headed for hell, stand up for the flag and let’s all ring the liberty bell “.
Reading is hard work. It requires time and discipline. Liberty is only for the self-disciplined. Those who can’t govern themselves will be governed by someone else. Meme’s, tweets, and “likes” have softened our minds. It may be time to build back some of that lost “freedom muscle”.
What are you reading?
Or I could ask, where are you going and who will you be when you get there?
