Got Gun? Good. Got God? Better.
In Luke 11, Jesus responds to critics by telling a story:
When a strong man, armed, keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace. But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
We keep and bear arms, and train in their use so that we can keep ourselves and our goods in peace.
We keep and bear arms, but we don’t put our trust in them. There will always be someone stronger than us who can overcome us and take away our guns. We trust in the Lord who made Heaven and Earth.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord, HE is their strength in time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him. (Psalms 20.7, 44.6, 37.39-40)
We keep and bear arms to keep ourselves and our goods in peace. But we don’t put our trust in either them or our training. We trust in the Lord who made Heaven and Earth.
We trust in Him who said, “See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god with me: I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.” Deuteronomy 32.39
