Rewriting the 2nd Amendment

According to a recent Fox News article, Washington State Senators voted to restrict open carry of firearms at the state capitol. A couple of sentences caught my attention:

“State Sen. Sam Hunt, another Democrat, said action needed to be taken because “these are not normal times.”

So according to Senator Sam Hunt, the 2nd Amendment would now look like:

“A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed, except when times are not normal.”

Hmmmm…

We’ve already accepted some rewriting. We have accepted:

“A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed, except in sensitive places or where posted otherwise.”

I wonder what other exceptions we can come up with. How about an exception like:

“A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed, unless permission is granted by the local, state, or federal government, in a case by case basis, after a long and tedious review of the case.”

Oh, I don’t know, why don’t we just scrap the whole amendment. Democratic state Sen. Patty Kuderer said, “You don’t need a weapon.”
